Video compressor

Compress a video at one of three levels or to a target size in MB, and save it as an MP4 (H.264). Each file can be up to 1 GB and is compressed in your browser.

Reads MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV and other videos. Not more than 1 GB per file, up to 20 files at a time.

Check and download

After you upload files, the results can be checked and downloaded here.

How to use

  1. In step 1, choose the output format and settings.
  2. In step 2, upload the files. Several can be chosen at once, and processing starts after upload.
  3. When all files are done, download them one by one or together.

Notes

  • Compression re-encodes the picture at a lower bitrate and, where needed, a lower resolution. The stronger the compression, the smaller the file and the more detail is lost.
  • For a target size, the bitrate is calculated from the length of the video and the resolution is chosen from the bitrate. The result is slightly below the size you enter.
  • If the original video is already highly compressed, the file may not become much smaller. The page will show a notice in this case.
  • Processing time depends on your device and the length of the file, and progress is shown on the page. Processing takes longer on a phone, so please keep this page in the foreground and do not lock the screen.

Questions and answers

How much quality is lost?
Light compression keeps the original resolution and about 70% of the video bitrate, with slightly less detail. Strong compression reduces the short side to 720 pixels and gives the smallest file, which suits viewing on a phone or sending as an attachment.
Why can the target size not be reached?
The longer the video, the lower the bitrate needed to reach the same size. Below 100 kbps the picture is no longer recognisable, so the page shows the smallest size to which this video can be compressed.
