Notes
- MP4 is a video file. Music players, car stereos and phone ringtones usually require an audio file, and MP3 plays on nearly every device.
- The audio in an MP4 is usually AAC. To keep the original quality without re-encoding, please choose M4A.
- MP3 plays on nearly every phone, computer and car stereo. At the same bitrate, M4A (AAC) gives better sound quality and is widely used on Apple devices.
- If the video's audio is already AAC, M4A copies the original audio without re-encoding. This is the fastest option and the quality is unchanged.
- WAV is uncompressed and about 7 times the size of a 192 kbps MP3. Please choose it only when WAV is specifically required.
- Processing time depends on your device and the length of the file, and progress is shown on the page. Processing takes longer on a phone, so please keep this page in the foreground and do not lock the screen.
Questions and answers
- What is the difference between MP4 and MP3?
- MP4 is a container that can hold both video and audio, while MP3 holds audio only. After conversion only the audio is kept, so the file is much smaller.
- Does converting to MP3 reduce the sound quality?
- MP3 is a lossy format, so the audio is re-encoded. 192 kbps is suitable for most purposes; please choose 320 kbps for the highest quality. To avoid re-encoding, please choose M4A.
- What happens if a video has no audio?
- That file is marked “Not processed” with the reason, and the remaining files are converted as usual.
