Webcam test

After you allow the browser to use the camera, a live picture in step 2 means the camera is working. The page also shows the actual resolution (for example 1280 × 720), the frames per second and the brightness of the picture.

Turn on the camera (current step)

The browser will ask whether this website may use the camera.

Resolution to request

The browser and the camera agree the actual resolution. It is shown in step 3.

The camera picture is shown only on your device. It is not uploaded, recorded or saved.

View the picture

After you start the test, the live picture from the camera appears here.

Check the results

After you start the test, the results appear here.

How to use

  1. Select “Start test” and allow this website to use the camera when the browser asks.
  2. If more than one camera is connected, choose the one to test in step 1. You can also choose the resolution to request.
  3. Check in step 2 that the picture is sharp, well lit and well framed.
  4. Check the actual resolution and frame rate in step 3. When you finish, select “Stop test”. The browser then stops using the camera.

Common questions

What should I check before an online exam or a video interview?
Please check that the picture is sharp, your face is well lit and fully in the frame, and test your microphone as well. If the exam or interview platform publishes its own device requirements, those requirements apply.
Why is the actual resolution lower than the rated resolution?
The browser agrees a format with the camera based on the resolution requested, and the result may be lower than the rated value. Please choose “Highest” in step 1 and test again. A USB port without enough bandwidth can also lower the resolution and frame rate.
Why is the picture reversed?
This page mirrors the picture by default, as a mirror would, so that you can position yourself. Mirroring affects only this page and can be turned off in step 1.
What if the frame rate is low?
In poor light, the camera uses a longer exposure and the frame rate drops. Please add light in front of you, or request a lower resolution.
