Compress PDF to 500 KB

Reduce a PDF to not more than 500 KB (counted as 1 KB = 1,000 bytes) and check the new size before you download. Scanned files are compressed as images at the sharpest quality within the limit. Your file is not uploaded.

Check and download

After you upload a PDF, the result can be downloaded here.

How to use

  1. Choose the size limit given on the application page, for example “not more than 200 KB”.
  2. Upload the PDF. Scanned files use Convert to images and text documents use Keep text, unless you change the method.
  3. Check the new file size and the number of pages, then download.

Please note

  • Convert to images turns each page into a JPG image, which makes the file much smaller. The text can then no longer be selected or searched.
  • Keep text compresses only the images in the file, and the text remains selectable. Files with much text and few images become only slightly smaller. If the limit cannot be met, the page shows the smallest size possible.
  • The limit is counted as 1 KB = 1,000 bytes, so the file is also accepted by systems that count 1 KB as 1,024 bytes.
  • Each file must not be more than 100 MB, or 40 MB on a mobile phone.

Common questions

Why is the compressed file less clear?
A smaller limit leaves fewer bytes for each page, so the pages are less sharp. The resolution used (dpi) is shown below the check list. For sharper pages, please choose a larger limit or remove some pages.
What if the smallest size is still above the limit?
Please remove the pages you do not need, or split the file and upload the parts separately. Fewer pages allow each page to be sharper.
Can I compress a PDF that has a password?
If a PDF has an open password, please enter the password first. The resulting file will not have a password.
