Pomodoro timer

The timer alternates between focus sessions and breaks. By default, each focus session is 25 minutes and each short break is 5 minutes, with a 15-minute long break after every 4 focus sessions. All times can be changed. An alarm plays at the end of each period, even in a background tab.

How to use

  1. A pomodoro timer divides time into alternating focus and break periods. By default, each focus session is 25 minutes and each short break is 5 minutes. After every 4 focus sessions, the next break is a 15-minute long break.
  2. All the times and the long break interval can be changed. If you change them while the timer is running, the current period ends at its original length, and the new times apply from the next period.
  3. With Start the next period automatically turned on, a break starts as soon as a focus session ends, and the next focus session starts as soon as the break ends. With it turned off, the timer waits for you to press the button after each period.
  4. An alarm plays at the end of each period: two falling notes when focus ends and two rising notes when a break ends. The alarms are scheduled when you start, so they also play on time in a background tab.
  5. The remaining time is calculated as the end time of the period minus the current time. If you close the page and open it again, the timer continues from the elapsed time.
  6. Keyboard shortcuts: Space starts, pauses or resumes, S skips the current period, and R resets.
  7. This tool runs in your browser. What you enter and your timing records are stored only in this browser and are not uploaded.

Common questions

Does a focus session have to be 25 minutes?
No. A common pattern is 25 minutes of focus and a 5-minute break. You can change it to suit your needs, for example 50 minutes of focus and a 10-minute break.
Does the timer slow down in a background tab?
No. The timer calculates the remaining time from the end time on every update, so the display is correct as soon as you return. The alarms are also scheduled in advance.
Will the alarm play when my phone is locked?
Some mobile browsers pause web pages when the phone is locked, so the alarm may not play. Please turn on Keep the screen on while running and keep this page in the foreground.
