Check the results
After you start the test, the results appear here.
How to use
- Select “Start test” and allow this website to use the microphone when the browser asks.
- If more than one microphone is connected, choose the one to test in step 1.
- Speak at your normal volume and watch the level bar and the level record in step 2.
- Select “Record 5 seconds” and speak. When the recording ends, select “Play recording” to hear what was recorded.
- Check the results in step 3. When you finish, select “Stop test”. The browser then stops using the microphone.
Common questions
- What level is normal?
- At a normal speaking volume, the peak is usually between −30 dB and −6 dB. If it stays below −40 dB, the sound is too quiet. Please move closer to the microphone or raise the input volume in the system settings. A peak of 0 dB means clipping, and the sound is distorted.
- Why does the recording sound different from my voice?
- Browsers turn on echo cancellation, noise suppression and automatic gain by default, and these change the recorded sound. Meeting software usually does the same. Step 3 shows whether each of them is on.
- How do I test a headset microphone?
- Connect the headset and choose its microphone in step 1. On a phone, the system usually switches to the headset microphone when the headset is connected.
- Can I test the microphone on my phone?
- Yes. Open this page in the browser on your phone to test its built-in microphone.
