Refresh rate test

The refresh rate appears about 2 seconds after the page opens. It is measured from the frames the browser actually draws each second: about 60 on a 60 Hz screen and about 144 on a 144 Hz screen.

How to use

  1. Keep this page in the foreground. Please do not switch or move the window while measuring.
  2. In step 1, choose the refresh rate set for your display. If you are not sure, choose “Not sure”.
  3. After about 2 seconds, step 2 shows the measured refresh rate and a frame time chart.
  4. Check the results in step 3. After you move the window to another screen, select “Measure again”.

Common questions

Why does it show 60 Hz when my monitor is rated 144 Hz?
The display setting may still be 60 Hz, the cable or port may support only 60 Hz, or you may be using Safari. Please follow the steps below.
Why is the result not a whole number?
Screens often run at rates such as 59.94 Hz or 143.98 Hz, and browser timing has small errors. The page also shows the nearest common refresh rate.
Can I test my phone?
Yes. Open this page in the browser on your phone. Battery saver may lower the refresh rate, and browsers on iPhone measure about 60 Hz at most.
What does the motion comparison show?
The three blocks move at the same speed. The row that follows your screen's refresh rate moves most smoothly; compare it with the rows at 60 and 30 frames per second.

If the measured refresh rate is low

This page measures how fast the browser actually draws the page. If the result is lower than the rated refresh rate of your screen, please check the items below.

System and cables

Windows 11
Settings > System > Display > Advanced display, then choose the highest value under “Choose a refresh rate”. If a laptop has “Dynamic refresh rate” turned on, the rate changes with the content.
macOS
System Settings > Displays > Refresh rate. When ProMotion is chosen on a MacBook Pro, the rate changes with the content.
Cables and ports
A high refresh rate needs support from the screen, the graphics card and the cable. Some HDMI cables and ports can output only 60 Hz. Please use the cable supplied with the monitor.
Power saving
On battery power, or with battery saver turned on, the system may lower the refresh rate. Please connect the charger and measure again.

Browser

Safari is limited to about 60 Hz
On 120 Hz (ProMotion) screens, Safari updates web pages at about 60 frames per second by default, so this page measures about 60 Hz at most. On a Mac, please use Chrome or Edge. Browsers on iPhone and iPad all have this limit.
Keep the page in the foreground
The browser pauses drawing when the page is in the background, covered or minimised. Please do not switch windows while measuring.
More than one screen
The page measures the screen on which the browser window is shown. After you move the window to another screen, please select “Measure again”.
