How to use

  1. In step 1, choose the output format and settings.
  2. In step 2, upload the files. Several can be chosen at once, and processing starts after upload.
  3. When all files are done, download them one by one or together.

Notes

  • From iOS 11, iPhone 7 and later models record video in HEVC (H.265) by default, which some computers and websites cannot open.
  • If the video in a MOV file is already H.264, it is only repackaged as MP4 without re-encoding. This is quick and the quality is unchanged.
  • MP4 with H.264 video and AAC audio opens on almost every system and website. If you are unsure, please choose this option.
  • “Original codec” does not re-encode, so it is the fastest and the quality is unchanged. However, HEVC (H.265) videos do not open on some computers and websites.
  • When an HDR video is re-encoded, it is saved in standard dynamic range and its colours may look paler.
  • Processing time depends on your device and the length of the file, and progress is shown on the page. Processing takes longer on a phone, so please keep this page in the foreground and do not lock the screen.

Questions and answers

Can an iPhone record in H.264 instead?
Yes. On the iPhone, go to Settings > Camera > Formats and choose Most Compatible. New videos will then use H.264.
Is quality lost in conversion?
Not when a video is only repackaged. When re-encoding is needed, a high quality setting is used, and the file size may differ from the original.
Is the audio kept?
Yes. The audio is converted as well: to AAC for MP4 and to Opus for WebM.
