"I only need pages 3, 7, and 15 from this PDF, but I have to manually type page numbers every time. One typo and I have to start over. Why can't I just click the pages I want?"
Suried PDF provides visual page cards — every page appears as a clickable thumbnail. Click to select, Shift+click to select a range, or use the range input field for large documents. Intuitive interaction eliminates input errors entirely.
01 Understanding Split vs Extract Modes
"Split" and "Extract" may seem similar but serve different purposes. Splitting divides one PDF into multiple independent PDF files (e.g., a 20-page document split into 4 files of 5 pages each), while extracting picks specific pages to form a new single file.
In Suried, you can choose the mode that fits your need. Extract mode is more flexible — you can freely select any combination of pages, while Split mode is ideal for dividing long documents at fixed intervals.
Not sure which mode to pick? If you need to "pick specific pages," use Extract. If you need to "cut the entire file into segments," use Split.
02 Visual Page Selection with Thumbnails
After uploading a PDF, the tool automatically renders a thumbnail for every page. Each thumbnail appears as an individual page card showing a content preview and page number.
Click any page card to select it — selected cards are highlighted. Click again to deselect. You can click pages one by one for precise control over which pages to extract.
Hold Shift and click another card to select all pages between the two clicks. This is especially efficient when you need consecutive pages — selecting pages 5 through 15 takes just two clicks.
03 Using Range Input for Large Documents
For PDFs with hundreds of pages, clicking one by one can be tedious. Suried offers range input — type a page range in the input field to select quickly. For example, "1-5, 10, 15-20" selects pages 1–5, page 10, and pages 15–20 simultaneously.
Range input supports flexible formats: single page numbers (e.g., "7"), continuous ranges (e.g., "3-8"), or a combination of both (comma-separated). Page cards highlight in real time as you type, so you can visually confirm your selection.
Range input and visual clicking can be mixed freely — use range input for a rough selection, then fine-tune individual pages by clicking. The two methods work together without conflict.
04 Downloading Extracted Results
After selecting the pages you need, click the "Extract" or "Split" button. The tool processes the selected pages locally in the browser and generates a new PDF file.
Extract mode produces a single PDF containing all selected pages. Split mode generates multiple PDF files — if there are many, they're automatically packaged as a ZIP download.
The generated PDF maintains the original page resolution and formatting. Once processing is complete, the browser automatically prompts a download dialog — the entire process usually takes just a few seconds.
The extracted PDF filename automatically includes the original filename and selected page range, making it easy to identify the content.
FAQ
Is the original PDF modified when extracting pages?
No. Extraction never modifies the original file — it generates a brand new PDF based on your selected pages. The original PDF always remains unchanged.
Can I extract pages from an encrypted PDF?
If the PDF has an open password, you'll need to unlock it in another tool first. If the PDF only has permission restrictions (like printing disabled) but no open password, extraction usually works normally.
Can Shift+click selection span across already-selected pages?
Yes. Shift+click selects all pages between the two clicks, regardless of whether intermediate pages were already selected. Already-selected pages stay selected, and unselected ones are added to the selection.
Can I customize the number of pages per segment in Split mode?
Yes. Split mode lets you specify the number of pages per segment. For example, a 30-page PDF set to 10 pages per segment produces 3 PDF files of 10 pages each.
Will the extracted PDF be smaller than the original file?
Usually yes. The extracted PDF only contains the pages you selected, so the file size decreases proportionally. However, if the original PDF has embedded full font sets or shared resources, the size reduction may not be strictly linear.
