A higher value gives better quality and a larger file. For general use, please set 80 or higher.

Fill transparent areas with

JPG does not support transparency. Transparent areas will be filled with the selected colour. Images without transparent areas are not affected.

Upload images (current step)

After you upload images, check the results and download them here.

Why convert BMP to JPG

  • Most BMP files are not compressed. An image of 4000×3000 pixels is about 36 MB, far above the upload limits of online forms. For example, the JEE (Main) 2027 application accepts a photograph of not more than 200 kB.[1][2]
  • The US Department of State requires digital photographs for visa applications in JPEG format, not more than 240 kB.[3]
  • MDN advises against using BMP for web content in general.[1]

How to convert

  1. “Convert to JPG” is already selected in Step 1. For a smaller file, please lower the quality.
  2. In Step 2, choose or drag in your BMP files. You can add several at once, and conversion starts automatically.
  3. In Step 3, check the results and download one image, or all images as a ZIP file.

What changes after converting BMP to JPG

  • JPG does not support transparency. Transparent areas of the original are filled with the colour chosen in Step 1 (white by default).[1]
  • The converted image does not contain the shooting information (EXIF) of the original, such as the date, camera model and location. The image is turned upright according to the orientation recorded in the original.

Frequently asked questions

What colour do transparent backgrounds become in JPG?
JPG does not support transparency. Under the HTML standard, a web page that exports such an image directly places transparent areas on a black background, which is why some tools produce a black background. This tool first fills the background with the colour chosen in Step 1 (white by default), then exports the image.[1][4]
What quality setting should I use?
Set the quality in Step 1. The range is 10–100, and the default is 90. A higher value gives better quality and a larger file. If the upload has a size limit, lower the quality and check the converted size in the list in Step 2.
Is the JPG file larger or smaller than the original BMP file?
Most BMP files are not compressed, so the JPG file is much smaller. The size of each file before and after conversion is shown in the list in Step 2.[1]
Can I convert several images at once?
Yes. You can select or drag in up to 100 images at a time. When all images are converted, you can download them one by one or together as one ZIP file.

About the BMP format

  • BMP is the bitmap format of Windows. It has no formal standard; the format is defined in Microsoft documentation.[1][5]
  • Most BMP files are not compressed, and each pixel takes 3 bytes. At this rate, an image of 4000×3000 pixels is about 36 MB.[1]
  • MDN advises against using BMP for web content in general.[1]
