Convert HEIC photos taken on an iPhone to PNG and save them with lossless compression.

Choose format (completed)

Convert to PNG

Output format

PNG is a lossless format. There is no quality setting, and the image is saved without loss.

Upload images (current step)

You can also drag images here.

You can select several images at once, up to 100. Accepted formats: HEIC, WebP, JPG, PNG, GIF, BMP, AVIF and SVG.

Check and download

After you upload images, check the results and download them here.

Why convert HEIC to PNG

  • PNG uses lossless compression. If you edit and save the image again after conversion, no quality is lost through repeated compression.[1]
  • Chrome, Edge and Firefox cannot display HEIC images. All major browsers can display PNG.[2][3]
  • To view HEIC photos in the Photos app on Windows 10, you must install HEIF Image Extensions and the paid HEVC Video Extensions. PNG files open without these extensions.[4][5]

How to convert

  1. “Convert to PNG” is already selected in Step 1.
  2. In Step 2, choose or drag in your HEIC files. You can add several at once, and conversion starts automatically.
  3. In Step 3, check the results and download one image, or all images as a ZIP file.

Without this tool

  • On a Mac, open the image in Preview, choose File > Export, select JPEG or PNG from the Format menu, then click Save.[6]

What changes after converting HEIC to PNG

  • This tool exports still images. If the original is animated, only the first frame is kept.
  • The converted image does not contain the shooting information (EXIF) of the original, such as the date, camera model and location. The image is turned upright according to the orientation recorded in the original.

Frequently asked questions

Will the PNG have better quality than the original photo?
No. PNG keeps the image exactly as it was read during conversion, but it cannot restore details that were lost when the photo was taken and compressed.[1]
Is the PNG file larger or smaller than the original HEIC file?
PNG uses lossless compression, so photos saved as PNG are large, usually larger than the original HEIC files. If the upload has a size limit, please convert to JPG instead. The size of each file before and after conversion is shown in the list in Step 2.[1][7]
Can I convert several images at once?
Yes. You can select or drag in up to 100 images at a time. When all images are converted, you can download them one by one or together as one ZIP file.

About the HEIC format

  • HEIF (High Efficiency Image File Format) was developed by the Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG) and is published as ISO/IEC 23008-12. HEIC is a HEIF image encoded with HEVC. Its file extension is .heic.[8][9][10]
  • iPhone 7 and later models with iOS 11 or later can take photos in HEIF format. When the camera format is set to High Efficiency, photos are saved as HEIF. When it is set to Most Compatible, they are saved as JPEG.[7]
  • According to Apple, HEIF compresses images more than JPEG while keeping the same image quality.[7]
  • To view HEIC photos in the Photos app on Windows 10, you must install HEIF Image Extensions (free of cost) and the paid HEVC Video Extensions from the Microsoft Store.[4][11][5]
  • Chrome, Edge and Firefox cannot display HEIC images on web pages. Safari supports them from version 17.[2][12]
  • Android 9 and later can decode HEIF, but support depends on the device.[13]
