- File format
- PDF (preferred), JPG or JPEG; not more than 4 MB for each file.
- Combining
- A multi-page document (such as Form I-864) must be scanned as one file. A translation must be in the same file as the original.
- Colour and orientation
- Scans must be in colour and the right way up, so that they can be read without rotating.
- Other
- If the back has a stamp or text, both sides must be scanned. Compressed files, editable PDFs and password-protected PDFs are not accepted.

Make the PDF with this tool
- Step 1 is set to “US immigrant visa (CEAC)”, and step 3 is set to: A4 portrait, 1 image per page, 10 mm margin, file size not more than 4 MB.
- In step 2, upload the images. Arrange them by dragging on the page preview, or with “Move earlier” and “Move later”. Rotate or crop them if needed.

- Please turn sideways pages the right way up, so that the file can be read without rotating.

Common reasons for rejection
- The scan is in black and white.
- The back of the document was not scanned.
- The translation was uploaded as a separate file.
- Pages are not the right way up.
- The file is larger than 4 MB, or is a compressed, editable or password-protected file.
