Upload images (current step)

You can also drag images here.

You can select several images at once, up to 100. Accepted formats: HEIC, WebP, JPG, PNG, GIF, BMP, AVIF and SVG.

Check and download

After you upload images, check the results and download them here.

Why convert JPG to WebP

  • According to Google, lossy WebP images are 25–34% smaller than JPEG images of the same quality (measured by SSIM).[1]
  • Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari can all display WebP. Using WebP on a website does not affect visitors who use these browsers.[2][3]

How to convert

  1. “Convert to WebP” is already selected in Step 1. For a smaller file, please lower the quality.
  2. In Step 2, choose or drag in your JPG files. You can add several at once, and conversion starts automatically.
  3. In Step 3, check the results and download one image, or all images as a ZIP file.

What changes after converting JPG to WebP

  • The converted image does not contain the shooting information (EXIF) of the original, such as the date, camera model and location. The image is turned upright according to the orientation recorded in the original.

Frequently asked questions

Why is WebP not available in Safari?
The web canvas in Safari cannot export WebP, so in Safari this tool can export only JPG and PNG. Please use Chrome, Edge or Firefox.[4]
What quality setting should I use?
Set the quality in Step 1. The range is 10–100, and the default is 90. A higher value gives better quality and a larger file. If the upload has a size limit, lower the quality and check the converted size in the list in Step 2.
Is the WebP file larger or smaller than the original JPG file?
The converted size depends on the quality setting and the image content. The size of each file before and after conversion is shown in the list in Step 2.
Can I convert several images at once?
Yes. You can select or drag in up to 100 images at a time. When all images are converted, you can download them one by one or together as one ZIP file.

About the JPG format

  • The JPEG standard (ISO/IEC 10918-1, also published as ITU-T T.81) was published in 1992. It specifies how still images are encoded.[5][6]
  • Most JPEG files use lossy compression, which balances image quality against file size. The standard also defines a lossless mode, but it is rarely used.[5][2]
  • JPEG does not support transparency (an alpha channel).[2]
  • All major browsers support JPEG.[2]
